Doda: Six passengers were killed and fifty-five others injured some of them seriously, when a bus rolled down into a gorge in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.
The ill-fated bus was on its way from Dhara to Doda and met with an accident at around 4: 3o pm. Police said the driver apparently lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve. “The ill-fated bus plunged into a 200-feet deep gorge resulting into death of five passengers and injuries to fifty others,” a senior police official said.
Soon after the accident, rescue teams rushed to the site and extricated the bodies.
“Five bodies were recovered from the place of mishap,” he said. As many as 35 wounded passengers were hospitalised in Doda. The authorities later used helicopters to airlift 15 critically wounded passengers to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Jammu.
Meanwhile, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief and shock over the accident and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured.
