Kupwara: A 30-year-old Kupwara man, father of four children, was found murdered in Jalandhar district of Punjab on Saturday.
Maqsood Ahmad Shah son of Mohammad Dilawar Shah of village Dardpora has been missing since April 4 from his rented accommodation in Malsiyan, Shahkot area of Jalandhar, where he had been selling shawls for the past four months.
When family’s phone calls were not responded, his brother Shah Zaman and some other family members went to Shahkot and filed a missing report with the police.
On Saturday morning, Maqsood’s body was found in a nallah at Parjian Kalan village by a few villagers. “He had been strangulated with telephone wire and his forehead and nose had been bashed. Post mortem could not be conducted today. It will be carried out tomorrow,” said investigation officer Som Nath.
The J&K government has not made any arrangement for bringing the body to Valley by air, the family members said.
Earlier in the day, the family of the deceased had blocked Kupwara-Baramulla road for some time, asking police to locate Maqsood.
“We protested because the attacks on Kashmiri students in India had worried us,” Shah said.
