Jammu: Senior PDP Leader and MP Tariq Hameed Karra today demanded scrapping of NSFA in the State and asked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to take a urgent call on it.
Keeping in view the State wide protests against the implementation of this National Food Security Act (NFSA) and tremendous miseries being faced by the people of the State, J&K CM will be kind enough to take the required steps in this regard on priority at an earliest, Karra said in a statement today.
Karra blamed the department of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) for the passage of the alleged faulty bill in the State legislature and for allegedly manipulating the updating of records thereby pushing thousands of people to the starvation.
The State government should immediately stop the implementation of NFSA till necessary amendments are carried out in the Act to suit Jammu and Kashmir, which is land locked and northern most state of India, Karra said adding the “forcible” implementation of NFSA needs to be halted.
PDP MP has demanded that records should be rectified and bill be amended so that the large population of the State benefit in terms of quantum of ration.
A method should be devised whereby in certain cases the selling price should be different above the fixed slab.
Till then the previous system of public distribution should be adopted, he said.
Karra appealed to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to adopt the previous system of Public distribution till the necessary amendments in the NFSA are made or necessary steps added to NFSA.
