SRINAGAR: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday said the clashes in National Institute of Technology (NIT) here were being blown out of proration to create unrest in the state.
The body said similar disputes occurred recently in several educational institutions including Jawaharlal Nehru University and Hyderabad Central University.
“The national media, electronic as well as print, did not present it in the same way as they have been highlighting a small issue between the students and the administration of the NIT Srinagar,” KCCI said in a statement issued here.
It said the police has “rightly and timely” acted to deescalate the tension at the NIT campus.
“On its face, it seems a non issue, but an attempt (is being made) by the vested interest to create trouble in an ill-designed manner, which could have far-reaching consequences in other parts of the country. But the Kashmiris will not fall in to this trap.”
The chamber demanded investigation into the incident, and appealed the students of NIT to not fall prey “to any intrigue and machination of the enemies of peace and vested political interests”.
