Pulwama: Thousands of people on Wednesday joined the funeral prayers of a local Hizbul Mujahideen militant who was killed in a gunfight with government forces at Gudoora village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday evening.
Eyewitness said despite heavy rain thousands of people offered Nimaz e Jinaza at least three times for the slain militant, Bilal Ahmad, at his native village, Karimabad.
Eyewitness told Kashmir Reader that early on Wednesday morning thousands of people including women and children’s from adjoining villages, and Pulwama town, Gudoora, Newa, Kakapora and other areas assembled in Karimabad and held massive anti-India and pro-freedom protests.
The slain militant was later taken to graveyard in a massive procession and laid to rest there. A dozen people, including some cops, were injured on Tuesday evening during clashes between locals and government forces near the encounter site.
Meanwhile, Pulwama town and its adjoining areas observed a complete shutdown to mourn the death of the militant while a large number of people from different villages of the district thronged Bilal Ahmad’s home to express sympathy with the family.
Bilal Ahmad had been active from March 2015 and was one of the main members of cop turned militant Nasir Pandit’s group. Bilal is survived by two sons.
Chairman Democratic Political Movement Firdous Ahmad Shah and other Hurriyat leaders visited Karimabad and paid rich tributes to Bilal Ahmad.
