NIT protests: Police using force to disperse protesting Kashmiri students

Srinagar: Police and Para-military forces are using heavy teargas shelling inside NIT campus to disperse Kashmiri students protesting against the harassment by non-Kashmiri students after Friday prayers.
The Kashmiri students are chanting anti-India slogans and raising pro-Pakistan and freedom slogans inside the campus.
They said that the local students are being continuously harassed and they have been told to immediately vacate the hostel by the institutes’ authorities.
The non-Kashmiri engineering students’ at National Institute of Technology (NIT) earlier chanted anti-Pakistan and pro-India slogans after Kashmiri students studying there celebrated West Indies win over India in 2nd semi-final of world T20 on Thursday night.
They (non-local students) damaged institutes window glass panes and harassed many Kashmiri students while raising slogans, “Hindustan Zindabad, Pakistan Murdabad” in the campus.
After students finished Friday prayers, non-Kashmiri students gathered and took out a march in NIT campus, later damaging classroom infrastructure, Kashmiri students told Kashmir Reader.
Meanwhile, NIT registrar Prof. F.A. Mir issued an order for the closure of the institute. He has also directed students to vacate the hostels.
