Ganderbal: A number of students of Government Higher Secondary School, Hayan Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Wednesday staged a protest against shortage of teachers.
After boycotting their classes, the students were demanding appointment of teachers in the school, and held a dharna at Srinagar- Sonamarg road to lodge their protest disrupting vehicular movement on the busy road.
The students said due to the shortage of teaching staff in the school, academic session of students is affected. “We were forced to lodge a protest as our repeated pleas for the appointment of teachers have fallen to deaf ears,” they alleged.
The students appealed the education department to look into the matter and take immediate measures in this regard.
Earlier, students of High School Surfraw blocked highway in the same area for same problem.
SDM Kangan, Gulam Ahmad along with police officials reached to the spot and pacified the students by assuring necessary action.
On assurance, the protesting students dispersed peacefully and vehicular movement was restored on the busy highway.
