Baramulla: Angry protestors locked the local ration depot and blocked the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway in Uri, Baramulla against the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
A large number of people took to the streets in Bimyar, Uri and staged a protest against NFSA after the Department of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) started distributing ration among the locals under new scheme. Angry protesters refused to take the ration and marched towards the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad national highway.
Vehicular movement on the highway remained affected for many hours. The protesters, shouting anti-NFSA slogans demanded distribution of ration as per the old system. The protestors also locked the local ration store.
On Tuesday, the villagers of Zamboorpatten, Dani, Bijhama, Lachipora, Salamabad, Chandenwari etc too staged protests against the Act and blocked the highway for hours near Chandanwari.
