SRINAGAR: Commissioner SMC, Bashir Ahmad Khan, on Saturday held a review meeting on Swachh Bharat Mission at municipal central office here. As per a statement issued here, during the meeting, the progress on account of applications received, uploaded, and verified from individual household level for construction of toilet facility, was reviewed.
Khan was informed that ten thousand application forms have been received so far out of which 8191 have been uploaded, 387 verified, and 33 rejected. “After approving some of the cases on-spot, Commissioner instructed the concerned officers to expedite the further work in this process and to extend the date of receiving applications from the beneficiaries. As per the census data, at least five thousand households in Srinagar city are without the basic toilet facilities and have insanitary toilets.
SMC Commissioner said under Swachh Bharat Mission, it is mandatory that every household should have its own latrine facility within premises and these latrines should have proper scientific disposal facility of night soil. “People must come forward and avail this service,” Khan said.
The meeting also discussed the construction of community toilets for which certain areas have been specified as per the requirement.
