SRINAGAR: Department of Social Welfare Kashmir organised an awareness cum rehabilitation camp at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Nowhatta on Saturday to make people aware about drug abuse and rehabilitation. The programme was held in collaboration with a non-government organisation (NGO) SPYM.
Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Director Social Welfare department, Masood Ahmad Wani and District Social Welfare Officer Srinagar, Bureeda Majid spoke about growing drug abuse in Kashmir.
“Drug menace is growing in our valley at an alarming rate and nobody can stop it without support from youth,” Masood said on the occasion.
Bureeda Majeed said that drug abuse has spread its tentacles to our schools too. “Not only uneducated people but even the educated youth are falling victims to drug addiction,” she said.
A team of doctors and counselors, who were part of this camp held a separate session with some drug addicts.
