Mohali: Scores of Kashmiri youths led by National Students Union of India leader Prakash Singh Dadwal demonstrated at Sector 82 of Mohali on Saturday against the “brutal assault” on Sanjay Singh Thakur, a student from Jammu, and his mates, a spokesman of the NSUI said in a statement.
“Thakur and his mates, all residents of Jammu Kashmir, were thrashed by the four accused, including both sons of the landlord in whose house the victims had been residing as paying guests in Chilla village in sector 81 Mohali,” the statement said.
The statement said that the protesters shouted slogans against the Punjab government and its administration for “playing dirty tricks with J&K youths”.
“Prakash Singh Dadwal said the Punjab administration does not utter a word or act against the people who harass innocent youths of J&K,” the statement added.
The statement, quoting Dadwal, said that the police claim that they have registered a complaint (FIR No 0066 of 2016) on 16th of March and assured that raids were being conducted to nab the accused.
But one of the accused was seen with a bottle of alcohol on 22 March at his native village.
“They have been holding parties at their home. This puts a question mark on the conduct of the administration. Who will ensure security of Kashmiri youths? If the administration is serious about punishing the accused, then it should declare them as absconding criminals.”
According to Sanjay Singh, the statement said, the police and as well as the hospital management were harassing him.
“I fear they are fabricating reports because they declined to give me a copy of the reports,” he said.
