TRAL: A group of legal experts highlighted the essence of legal awareness in remote and far-flung areas and stressed on rights of women and their protection under the prevailing laws in Jammu and Kashmir during a daylong seminar at Government Degree College Tral in south Kashmir on Friday.
The seminar was organised by debate and seminar committee of the college. In her inaugural address, Prof Laila Khalid, head department of english underscored the need for sustained campaign to make the common people, especially in rural areas, aware about their rights, responsibilities and protections under law of the land.
Principal Dr Mushtaq Ali Mir in his keynote address said that legal protection has elevated the status of citizens. Senior High Court lawyer Muhammad Ashraf Wani, deliberated upon the various rights and duties of citizens and public servants from the legal perspective. President Bar Association Tral Mohammad Shafi Dar also spoke on the occasion. He gave a detailed account of legal awareness programmes conducted in Tral area and assured that such programmes will be conducted in future also.
Judicial Magistrate Tral, Mir Wajahat who was chief guest on the occasion, deliberated on the various nuances of legal awareness and highlighted the rights and protection of women. Several students raised queries on the deliberations and received detailed explanations from the speakers.
