ANANTNAG: After failing to locate the three-year-old boy who went missing four days ago from Pehru area of Anantnag, police on Friday registered a kidnapping case in the incident.
Ayan Shah, son of Abdul Hamid Shah of Dooru, went missing on Tuesday afternoon from Pehru. He has gone to the village with his mother to visit their relatives.
His disappearance triggered protests in the area and shutdown in entire Anantnag town on Wednesday.
Police, after registering a missing report, started searching for the child. Besides pressing into service marines to look for the child in a nearby stream, police also roped in sniffer dogs to assist it in the search.
Getting no clue after four days of tireless efforts, police finally registered a kidnapping case.
“Since the child remained missing for three four days, we have registered a kidnapping case into the incident,” SHO Anantnag, Adil Ahmad, told Kashmir Reader.
He, however, said that registering kidnapping case does not mean that drowning has been ruled out.
“Nothing can be ruled out. It could be either drowning or kidnapping. But when a child goes missing and there is no clue for some days, we are supposed to register a kidnapping case,” SHO said.
Police, he said, is investigating the case from all possible angles.
Police, in an attempt to trace the boy, has also circulated posters and announced reward for anyone who gives any clue about him.
