SRINAGAR: Governor N N Vohra on Thursday approved Bills regarding amendments in the Municipal Corporation and persons with mental disabilities.
An official spokesman said here that Vohra accorded assent to the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
The amendments enable usage of Electronic Voting Machines for conducting elections to the Urban Local Bodies.
The State Administrative Council, in its meeting held on March 11, 2016, had approved the Housing and Urban Development Department’s proposal regarding the amendment of this Act.
He said Vohra also accorded assent to the Jammu and Kashmir State Trust for Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple disabilities Bill, 2016.
This Act which would benefit a sizeable population of persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation, and Multiple Disabilities, aims to empowering persons with such disabilities; extending support to registered organisations to provide need based services to families of persons with disabilities; promoting measures for care and protection of such persons and realization of equal opportunities; protection of rights and full participation of persons with disabilities, he said.
Besides empowering persons with such disabilities to live independently, this Act will enable the state government to ensure timely interventions and mediations for mitigating their genuine problems, the spokesman said.
A nominee of the department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, government of India, has been included in the Board of Trustees for supporting the State Trust in its formative years with regard to its management and operations, he said.
