Mehbooba anointed as CM candidate


Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti was on Thursday elected as legislature party leader which will pave way for her to become first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mehbooba who was anointed as the party leader and chief ministerial candidate at her Fairvew residence at Gupkar thanked her legislators for posing trust in her leadership.
After the meeting, senior PDP leader and MP Muzafar Hussain Baig said “dye has been cast” and a political government would be in place soon.
He also clarified that there were no new conditions put forward by the collation partners.
Meanwhile, former CM Omar Abdullah too took to twitter and congratulated Mehbooba Mufti on her anointment as PDP’s CM candidate.
“Congratulations to Mehbooba Mufti sahiba on being elected as the leader of the @jkpdp legislative party. I wish her well for the future,” he said in a tweet.

Both the alliance partners -PDP and BJP- would be meeting Governor NN Vohra on Friday in Jammu for staking claim over government formation.
NN Vohra, who is currently holding the charge of the state, on Wednesday, in a separate communications, asked both the PDP and BJP chief’s for a meeting on Friday. Baig corroborated BJP Kashmir minder Ram Madhav that the PDP had set no new conditions to the saffron party.
A day before, Mehbooba had returned to Valley after holding deliberations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday in New Delhi. She had described her meeting with Modi as positive, which indicated she would hold the fort two and half months after her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s demise.
When asked about the achievements extracted during the past two and half months, PDP chief spokesperson Naeem Akhtar did not comment.
Since January 8, when the state came under direct central rule, Mehbooba had been seeking ‘confidence building measures’ and ‘full implementation of the Agenda for Alliance’ the two parties had agreed on when they formed the government in March last year.
