KANGAN: The residents of Bonibagh village in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday blocked Srinagar-Leh highway against the non-repairment of a transformer which went out of order about five days back.
The protesters chanting slogans against Power Development Department (PDD) blocked the traffic movement on the highway leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded to press their demand of restoring power supply in their area. “We have been demanding replacement of damaged transformer in the locality to overcome the crisis,” a protester said. We approached the PDD several times but got nothing except assurances and promises, he said.
Protesters also alleged that due to non-availability of electricity all of them especially the students are facing the brunt.
Meanwhile, police and AEE PDD Kangan Ajaz Ahmad reached the spot and pacified the protesters.
On the assurance from the officials, the protesters dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the busy highway.
