Residents block Srinagar-Leh highway in Kangan

Kangan: The residents of Bonibagh village in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district blocked Srinagar-Leh highway early morning on Tuesday against the non-repairment of a transformer which went out of order about five days back.

The protesters chanting slogans against PDD department blocked the traffic movement on the highway leaving Hundreds of vehicles stranded including Tourists who visit Sonamarg famous tourist destination in Ganderbal to press their demand of restoring power supply in their area.

“We have been demanding replacement of damaged transformer in the locality to overcome the crisis,”a protester told Kashmir Reader.

We approached the PDD several times but got nothing except assurances and promises, he said..

Protesters also alleged that due to non-availability of electricity all of them especially the students are facing the brunt.

Meanwhile, police and AEE PDD Kangan Ajaz Ahmad reached the spot and pacify the protesters.

On the assurance the protesters dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the busy highway..
