SRINAGAR: Kashmiri photojournalist Javed Ahmad Dar was given ‘Professional Photographer of the Year’ award on Monday for his exceptional work.
The awards were given to 13 photojournalists by India’s minister for Finance, Corporate Affairs, and Information & Broadcasting, Arun Jaitley, at the 5th National Photography Awards ceremony at New Delhi.
The total number of awards in various categories was 13. Dar captures human interest mostly, and his photographs have appeared in prestigious international publications.
“The ‘national photography awards’ is a ‘great initiative’ of the government to honour and recognise those creative professionals who defined moments in history through their creative pictorial mastery,” Jaitley said on the occasion.
“Photographers work in adverse circumstances waiting to capture moments of the day which leaves an impression in the minds of the people. Photography is a complicated art which reminds us of history through images captured related to events/personalities,” he said.
