Baramulla: Fear gripped Kandi belt of Baramulla district when many residential houses were damaged by landsides. Hundreds of kanals of orchard land has been affected while as more than forty families have been shifted to safer places by the district administration.
More than 42 houses were partially damaged in Rajpora and Latifabad villages of Kandi, Baramulla due to landslides following incessant rains. There were no casualties reported as the inmates had already abandoned the houses and shifted to safer places. Some of the houses were completely buried under mud while as many cowsheds and other structures were also damaged. There have been reports of land drifting in many areas of three districts of Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora, officials said.
More than fifty houses were partially damaged in Kupwara district while the assessment of damage in Bandipora district is being ascertained out by the administration.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Yasha Mudgal, who visited the affected areas on Sunday told Kashmir Reader that all the affected families in Kandi Baramulla have been shifted to safer places. She said that the district administration had distributed eatables, tents and cash among the affected families. She added that more relief from Red Cross and administration would be provided to the affected people. Meanwhile the revenue officials have been sent to different areas of the district to collect information about losses suffered by the people.
Reports from neighboring Kupwara district said that more than 50 houses and other structures have been damaged by the landslides. All the families have been shifted to safer areas, reports added.
Baramulla-Uri road which was damaged at many places due to landslides has been cleared by the authorities for vehicular movement. However far flung areas of Kupwara and Bandipora are yet to be connected with district headquarters. Srinagar-Gulmarg road that was damaged near Zig Mode on Monday too has been cleared for vehicular movement.
