SRINAGAR: J&K High Court Bar Association on Saturday expressed concern about the plight of detainees and under-trial prisoners lodged in different state and outside jails whose cases are pending and are not produced in courts saying it will take up their matter with the High Court.
In a statement issued here, the Association said its team of 4 members will visit district jail, Baramulla next week, where inmates have decided to go on strike for not producing them in the court. “The team will interact with the under-trial and detainees for chalking out further course of action.”
“The inmates of district jail, Baramulla have been forced to take such a step as they are not produced in the Court of Additional Sessions Judge, Sopore, in the cases pending against them despite the fact that the said court is hardly at a distance of about 6 kms from the jail. As such, their cases are not progressing which adds to their sufferings and miseries. The jail authorities are hindering their right of getting speedy justice,” Bar said.
The Association said though it brought up the matter to the notice of High Court, the jail authorities didn’t show any respect for the order passed by the HC in this regard “which is highly deplorable”.
Meanwhile, Bar expressed happiness over the release of SAR Geelani
