Water-logging irks Hajin residents

Hajin: The residents of Hajin township in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district have expressed their concern over the water-logging of schools in the area due to incessant rains.
According to the locals, the heavy downpour from past fortnight has led to the water-logging of many schools including Government Girls School Hajin and Primary School at Syed Mohalla. The absence of proper drainage system has complicated the problem.
“We have reported the matter to the authorities many times but our requests fell upon deaf ears,” a local resident Riyaz Ahmad told Kashmir Reader.
“It’s unfortunate that schools are inundated and no measures have been undertaken to drain the water”, he said.
Meanwhile, locals have appealed the Municipal Committee Hajin to take immediate steps to dewater the schools.
Executive Officer Municipal Committee Anees Choudary said that he has directed the employees to dewater the schools as soon as possible. “Two water-pumps have been pushed into service”, he said adding a proposal for proper drainage system has been put up with the authorities.
