Pampore: Residents of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday demanded more doctors for the Sub district hospital situated in the saffron Town.
The residents said the hospital’s location was making it an important health care unit as it falls on national highway and more doctors need to be made available at the hospital.
“The hospital acts as a trauma centre for the accident victims as many accidents do happen on the national highway,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, a member of civil society, adding that only one doctor could not suffice the high patient inflow.
The doctors at the hospital said that it was sometimes difficult to handle the patients during night hours especially when accidents take place on the highway.
The Block Medical officer Pampore, Dr Saba said since there were only six doctors available with her office she cannot afford to provide more staff during the day time.
“I cannot make available two doctors for the hospital because there is dearth of staff,” the BMO said, adding, “I can only keep one more doctor on wait who would rush to the hospital if the need arises.”
When contacted, Chief Medical Officer Pulwama, Dr Fayaz Ahmad also said that there was dearth of doctors in the district and the demand for second doctor would only be considered if more doctors would be available to him.
