Baramulla jail inmates begin hunger strike

Baramulla: At least 24 prisoners in sub-jail Baramulla have started a hunger strike against the authorities ‘denial of justices’ to them.
Sources said that the strike by the inmates was against the authorities from not producing them before the courts including additional session judge Sopore.
They also alleged that if at all they are produced before the court, the judicial officers give long dates.
Last year, the inmates had staged a similar protest against non appointment of a public prosecutor in the Sessions Court Baramulla.
Subsequently, the High Court directed government to appoint the public prosecutor so that concept of speedy and fair trial will not get defeated.
The court had passed the directions while hearing PIL by Kashmir High Court Bar Association seeking better living conditions and redressal of grievances of the jail inmates in the state.
