SRINAGAR: Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter in a village in Handwara area of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning.
Indian army’s 21 RR along with JK Police’s SOG cordoned off a house in Wadora Bala village in Rajwar area of Handwara, 85 km from Srinagar, following information about presence of militants there, an official said.
He said the militants opened firing on security forces, who retaliated, triggering off a fierce gunbattle.
While one militant died in the initial assault, the other militant was killed during the gunbattle.
Meanwhile, a police official said two AK assault rifles, six magazines, 46 rounds, four radio sets and four UBGL grenades were recovered from the scene of the gunbattle.
Two GPS sets, two maps, two matrix sheets, one watch and a diary were also recovered, the official said.
The militants were believed to be foreigners, he said, adding, the bodies of the ultras were buried at the local graveyard by police with the help of local Auqaf committee.
