Srinagar: Police on Thursday filed a charge sheet in a case related to the killing of Police Sub Inspector Altaf Ahmed Dar, who was gunned down by militants in Bandipora on October 7, last year. SI Altaf, who headed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Jammu and Kashmir Police was reportedly chasing a group of militants in a private vehicle, when he was targeted.
Police Station Aragam, Bandipora, today filed a charge sheet in Bandipora court. The 258 page charge sheet carries the statements of 59 witnesses, mostly policemen.
Among the six accused named in the charge sheet is Abu Rehman alias Abu Qasim, Lashkar Commander from Bahawalpur, Multan Pakistan and is slain. Another accused Tauseef Sheikh from South Kashmir is at large. The accused have been booked under sections 302, 307, 120B, 49, 427 RPC also including 7/27 Arms act and 16 and 18 unlawful activities Act. The Investigations in the case filed under FIR no 23 of 2015 filed on 7 October 2015 was held under the supervision of DySp Headquarters Parvaiz Khan. The charge sheet was filed in the court after a gap of 5 months and 10 days. SDPO Mir Murtaza is among the witnesses, who have recorded their statements in the case.
Other four accused, who are in custody are Showkat Ahmad Hakeem, Mehraj-u-din, Mohd Younis Khanday and Manzoor Ahmad Parray, all residents of Hajin, Bandipora.
Families of the accused persons have however contested the allegations leveled against their kin.
Father of one of the accused, Showkat Hakeem said that the charges leveled against his son are fictitious and would be challenged in the court of law.
Sister of another accused, Mehraj-u-Din said that fake and baseless charges have been leveled against all the four including her brother.
