Minister says students detained as a ‘precautionary’ measure

SRINAGAR: The Parliamentary Affairs Minister of Rajasthan, Rajendra Rathore,on Thursday said the four Kashmiri students, who were arrested and later released for allegedly cooking beef in their College, were apprehended by police as a ‘precautionary’ measure.
“It was just a precautionary measure, the students were released respectfully,” the minister was quoted by a new Delhi-based news agency as saying.
The four students—Shakib Ashraf, Hilal Farukh, Mohammad Maqbool and Shaukat Ali—were released on bail on Wednesday after being presented before the magistrate.
The media reports suggested on Thursday that they were also charged for assaulting a journalist and damaging his equipment.
