Harassment of Kashmiri students

SRINAGAR: Awami Itihad Party (AIP) president and independent MLA Er Rashid on Thursday asked Indian law enforcing agencies to “shun double standards and stop acting on the dictates of right-wing Hindu organisations”.
In a statement issued here, Rashid condemned the attack on Kashmiri students in Mewar and their arrest following the rumours of eating beef in the university campus.
“There is no logic in threatening Kashmiri students across India for the reason that the right-wing Hindu organisations derive pleasure out of it. Kashmiris are being harassed, tortured, humiliated, and disgraced on various pretexts only for being Kashmiris and are treated as anti-nationals everywhere,” Rashid said.
He said attacks on Kashmiris may polarise the situation in Kashmir and “certain elements within Kashmir may be forced to vent out their anger against the non-resident Kashmiris”.
Commenting on the incident of BJP MLA beating a horse, Rashid said, “In Uttarakhand, a BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi is booked for beating a horse and not only Congress; even his own colleague, Maneka Gandhi is seeking his expulsion from the party. Many BJP MLAs visited the horse to enquire about his well-being while as those firing pellet, pepper, and teargas at Kashmiris goes unnoticed.”
