Srinagar: A pall of gloom descended on Srinagar’s Hassan Abad in Rainawari area on Saturday afternoon, after the body of Yasir Husain was brought home from Russia. The businessman died after being attacked by local goons in Russia.
After the ablution, amid tears, Yasir’s body was taken for funeral prayer to the local graveyard (Imam-Bada) and buried there. As a mark of sorrow and protest local youths of Hassan Abad carried black flags and chanted poems for young Yasir. The funeral procession was showered with flowers by local residents.
“For the first time I have witnessed such a mass funeral in our locality. He was a pious young man and belongs to a respectable family,” Said Yasir’s cousin Aqib Ahmad. 27-year-old Yasir Hussain Shirazi was attacked in the Russian city Kazan when he was returning to his hotel from a business meet. He remained in coma for some time, and then passed away.
A family member told Kashmir Reader that Yasir was neither a doctor nor a medical student. “He was running a surgical apparatus agency here and locals would call him doctor Saab. He went to Russia to do business with his brother,” said his Cousin Aqib. Yasir’s father Javid Ali Shirazi is a respectable citizen and the president of Hussaini Welfare Society Rainawari.
