Srinagar: Drug De-addiction services, PCR Kashmir, on Saturday organised a programme on ill effects of drug abuse at Iqbal High School, Soura here.
The event was part of PCR’s mental health programmes to aware people particularly the young generation about the ill effects of drug abuse. Till date, the centre has conducted over 70 such programmes in various schools and colleges.
As per an official statement issued here, a team of professionals including counsellors, social workers headed by Dr Shaila participated in the event.
Elaborating the drug addiction syndrome and its medical consequences, Dr. Shaila stressed on the measures to tackle the problem and emphasised the role of de-addiction centre and treatment protocol.
Counsellor Ghulam Rasool Dar and psychiatric social worker Manzoor Ahmad Yatoo elaborated the drug addiction scenario of Kashmir and the experience from working in police drug de-addiction centre.
They also deliberated on various psychosocial factors related to addiction and its psycho-social consequences besides the early identification of symptoms and different motivation strategies. The counsellors gave detailed overview of the role of counselling in controlling the addictive behaviour.
