‘J&K to host 2 major sports events’

Srinagar: The state is gearing up to host two major events in Football and Rugby this season.
An official handout issued here said the secretary J&K State Sports Council, Jawaid Ahmad Shah, along with the officers of J&K State Sports Council Saturday visited Polo Ground play field.
During his visit Shah instructed Joint Secretary (K) Prof Bashir Ahmad to ensure the maintenance of main football field Polo ground west and rectification of seating tier.
Shah also directed the Sports Council officials that the Traffic Police Department be asked for immediate removal of vehicles from the Polo Ground Play field area so that the sports activities do not suffer.
He also visited Astro Turf Football Field Srinagar where he was informed by the officers that field is ready for hosting of I-League football tournament scheduled to be held in the month of April.
While reviewing the progress of the ongoing renovation cum maintenance works at Bakhshi Stadium Srinagar He was informed that work is in progress on war footing basis and shall be completed well before the tournament.
He asked all the officers to ensure the completion of all the ongoing renovation and maintenance works in connection with the conduct of the said I-league tournament at Bakhshi Stadium and Astro Turf football field on priority basis.
