Vigilance produces two separate challans against ex-govt officials in Kashmir

Srinagar: The Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (VOK) on Saturday produced two separate challans in anti-corruption courts against two government employees for misappropriation of funds and bribery.
A VOK spokesperson here today said the anti-corruption body produced challan in the court of Special Anti-corruption Judge Srinagar against one Ghulam Mahdi Pandith, the then Head Assistant, Incharge Land Acquisition section in the office of Deputy Commissioner Budgam.
He said the case was registered in Police Station.
In a case against Ghulam Mahdi Pandith resident of Iskanderpora area of Budgam district, who worked as I/C Head Assistant, Land Acquisition section in the office of Deputy Commissioner Budgam, the VOK on Saturday said: “Investigation of the case was concluded as proved against the accused and as such the challan of the case was produced before the Hon’ble court of Special Anti-Corruption Judge Srinagar today (Saturday) for Judicial determination.”
“The case was registered in Police Station VOK on the basis of a written complaint lodged by Firdous Ahmad Dar resident of Kralpora (area of Budgam district), stating that an Army unit in Budgam area had deposited the rent/compensation amounting Rs 6,00,000 against the land of his wife namely Ulfat Ahad which was under the possession of the unit,” said an official release.
Pandith had demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 for releasing the payment in the case, it said.
However, the complainant lodged a complaint in the organisation for necessary legal action against the said official. On the receipt of the complaint, a case was registered and the investigation taken up,” the release said, adding,”The money was recovered from the possession of the accused Head Assistant in the presence of independent witness.”
In another case, Abdul Hamid Bhat resident of Kathsoo Sellar area of Anantnag district, who worked as Nursing Orderly in District hospital Anantnag, VOK said: “Investigation of the case was finally concluded as proved against the accused Ab. Hamid Bhat and after the accord of Govt. sanction for launching prosecution, the challan of the case was produced before the Hon’ble court of Additional Anti-Corruption Judge Anantnag today (Saturday) for Judicial determination.”
“On the basis of allegations of misappropriation of funds on account of auction of trees, Hospital Development Funds, NRHM Funds etc. by the officers/ officials of Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beigh Hospital Anantang. It was further alleged that Abdul Hamid Bhat Nursing Orderly who was then functioning as Incharge Registration section dishonestly and fraudulently by abusing his official position misappropriated an amount of Rs. 15,79,530 collected towards Hospital Developemnt funds between the period 06/2010 to 31/08/2011,”the official release said.
“Bhat was supposed to deposit an amount of Rs. 59,92,180 but deposited only Rs. 46,72,650 with the concerned Bank. The remaining amount of Rs. 13,19,530 was misappropriated by him by way of abusing his official position. Furthermore it was also revealed that he has also resorted to falsification of documents by making insertions in various bank receipts, thereby managing to show deposits of amount in excess of Rs. 2,60,000 vis-a-vis actual deposits in the official bank account No. 21005/SB during the period,” it said.
