KCCI to Govt: Check exorbitant airfares during peak tourist season

Srinagar: A delegation of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) held a detailed interaction with Sandip K. Naik, Principal Secretary Tourism Department. The Chamber delegation was led by the President, Mushtaq A Wani and included GM Dug, Rauf A. Punjabi, Dr. Mubeen Shah, Javid Ahmad Tenga, Nasir Hamid Khan and others.
Various issues pertaining to the tourism sector were discussed in detail, KCCI spokesman said in a statement, adding that the delegation pressed for holding of weeklong tourism promotion events in the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra, wherefrom a major chunk of domestic tourists visit Kashmir.
KCCI also raised the issue of escalation of airfares during the tourist season and sought government intervention in this regard. “During the season, the tickets are sold at exorbitant prices resulting in a financial bonanza. This practice, apart from adversely affecting the tourism sector, also makes traveling by air prohibitive for the general public. In this regard, the Chamber suggested that the Government itself should bloc a particular number of seats so that the same could be released during the season. This intervention would go a long way in ensuring that the airfares are kept under control,” the statement said.
