Kashmiri gold jewellers on strike

SRINAGAR: Gold and Jewellery traders in Kashmir are on strike from past over a week against New Delhi’s budgetary proposal to re-impose one per cent excise duty imposition on non-silver jewellery items.
They are also upset over making it mandatory for customers to quote PAN by on jewellery purchase of Rs. 2 lakh and above.
All Kashmir Gold Dealers and Workers Association president Bashir Ahmad Rather said that government wants to strangulate the trade and so far there has been a loss of millions of rupees to the traders here.
