Geelani suffers minor heart attack, stable in Delhi

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, on Thursday, suffered a minor heart attack and was taken to nearby private hospital for immediate treatment.

We had taken Geelani sahib for the routine check up to Escorts hospital. About two hours after we returned from the hospital, he complained severe chest pain, a family member said.

We took him to the nearby Max hospital where he was immediately admitted to ICU, he said.

“The patient (Geelani) not only had chest pain but low blood pressure and breathlessness,” a senior doctor associated with the hospital told Kashmir Reader.

“He is now stable and under observation. May be discharged by today (Thursday) evening or Friday morning,” he said.

Confirming the health of Geelani as stable, his son Syed Naseem Geelani said: “He (Geelani) was, in the morning, admitted at Max hospital in south Delhi’s Saket area. He is stable and under treatment. No need to worry but prayers are needed. The doctors conducted his many vital medical examinations including the ECG and was administered oxygen. After the test results, the doctors declared the health condition of Geelani Sahab as stable.”

Meanwhile, a delegation of senior Hurriyat leaders including, its spokesperson Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah and Raja Mehraj-ud-din have flown to Delhi to enquire the welfare of the ailing leader.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omer Abdullah took to twitter and prayed for speedy recovery of Hurriyat leader.

“Just heard about SAS Geelani having taken ill, admitted to the ICU in a Delhi hospital. Prayers for his speedy recovery,” Omer wrote on twitter.

Pro-freedom leader and chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq,in a tweet, too wished for the speedy recovery of the octogenarian leader.
