SRINAGAR: Four Lashkar-e-Toiba militants are holed up in Pulwama’s Padgampora, where a gunfight is going on between militants and government forces for past one-hour.
Police and Army have cordoned the area and heavy exchange of firing was going on when this report was published.
A senior police official said the Army has pressed UAV’s into service to flush out the militants. Pulwama district has emerged as a hotbed of militancy and a couple of encounters erupted in the area so far in past two-months this year.
It is believed that 10 militants of Hizbul Mujahideen and LeT were holding a meeting in the area before being surrounded by the forces. Some militants managed to escape the cordon zone.
Early in the day, an encounter broke out in Srinagar outskirts, however, two militants managed to give slip to government forces. An AK-47 was recovered from the spot.
