Srinagar: Two militants have been killed by government forces in the ongoing encounter in Pulwama on Wednesday.
The gunfight erupted after a group of militants were holding a meeting in the area on Tuesday afternoon. Police and Indian army cordoned the area resulting into a heavy exchange of fires.
Pulwama district has emerged as a hotbed of militancy and a couple of encounters erupted in the area so far in past two-months this year.
It is believed that 10 militants of Hizbul Mujahideen and LeT were holding a meeting in the area before being surrounded by the forces. Some militants managed to escape the cordon zone.
SP Awantipora Shridhar Patil while confirming the gnning down of two militants said, “Both the foreign militants have been killed.”
