Srinagar: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani, on Tuesday called for peaceful protests after Friday prayers against the continuous detention of SAR Geelani, Shabir Ahmad Shah, house arrest of Nayeem Ahmad Khan and slapping of PSA against the pro-freedom leaders and activists.
In a statement issued here, Geelani said, “On one hand, attempts are being made to frame SAR Geelani and on other side, the political activities of Hurriyat leaders have been completely banned and they are kept under illegal detentions.”
“SAR Geelani’s biggest crime is that he is a Muslim and a Kashmiri. So, the communal government of India will resort to vengeful policy. Initially, they tried to implicate him in Indian parliament attack case and now he is being framed in a false and baseless case. Kashmiris won’t remain silent over it but will continue to protest till he is released,” he said.
Condemning the continuous detention of pro-freedom leadership, Geelani said such imprisonments have no constitutional and legal justification and is nothing but “state hooliganism”.
“Shabir Ahmad Shah and Nayeem Ahmad Khan are subjected to political vengeance for their unity efforts in the pro-freedom ranks. This doesn’t go well with India’s secret agencies and police; so they are always working to destabilise the pro-freedom camp in one way or other,” he said.
Calling for peaceful protests after Friday prayers, the Hurriyat (G) chairman said, “We are left with no option but to protest and nobody can snatch this democratic right from us.”
