Srinagar: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said on Monday the alliance with the BJP was her late father’s decision ‘firmly cast in stone’ and she was committed to taking it forward provided the saffron party implements the Agenda for the Alliance the two parties had cobbled together last year.
She told a public gathering in Kupwara that late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s decision to align with the BJP was a “visionary move” for “development and peace” in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Mufti sahab ka faisla pather ki lakeer hai (Mufti sahab’s decision is cast in stone). I am committed to taking it forward,” Mehbooba told reporters.
“He took this decision very carefully. His decision is my decision but there is an Agenda for Alliance also,” Mehbooba said.
She said that she will not tolerate statements accusing Kashmiris of reneging on their word.
“My father was true to his word. I am also committed to his decisions,” she added.
Since January 8, a day after Mufti’s death, the state has been placed under governor’s rule. Mehbooba has been saying since that she will form a coalition government with the BJP again only after she is guaranteed by New Delhi that state-centric CBMs will be announced before she assumes charge. The two parties shared power for 10 months. Mehbooba would leave for New Delhi on Tuesday.
