SRINAGAR: Police on Monday arrested the Awami Itihad Party (AIP) president and MLA Langate, Er Rashid along with his associates when he was holding a protest march in city centre, Lal Chowk against the slapping of PSA on three Langate youth.
In a statement issued here, a party spokesman said dozens of AIP workers including its President Er Rashid were arrested in Lal Chowk after they defied police restrictions and took out a protest.
“Police used force to disperse the protester during which few were critically injured and shifted to hospital. More than two dozen activists including Sarpanchs are lodged in police station Kothi Bagh till last reports came,” he said.
“In order to appease New Delhi and to blackmail it for getting perks, privileges and promotions, police is bent to destroy the future of youths. They are trying to prove more loyal than the king,” the spokesman quoted Rashid as having said prior to his detention.
Demanding immediate release of the arrested persons, Rashid said it is high time of evolving a political consensus to abolish the “dirty” PSA.
