SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday said Jammu and Kashmir is the only state in the world where violation of human rights and killing of innocent people by government forces is a minor issue.
In a statement issued here, Geelani while expressing grief over the 14-year-old student’s losing his hand due to unexploded teargas in Srinagar said “this is not any big thing” in J&K “where armed forces are not accountable”.
“I’m personally hurt by this incident and I equally share the grief of the parents of the injured child,” he said.
Demanding complete ban on the use of “deadly” weapons against people, Geelani said until the world community particularly the UNICEF takes notice of this “serious” issue, such incidents will continue to happen.
He said due to huge military presence, Kashmir is standing over the heap of explosives. “Numerous people, mostly children, have lost their lives and many rendered disabled for the entire life due to such type of accidental explosions.”
Criticizing police for continuously using the lethal weapons against peaceful protestors, Geelani said nowhere in the world do law enforcing agencies use lethal and deadly weapons against their own people.
“People all over the world protest for their demands and authorities have found safe and effective ways to deal with the protesters. But the imposition of black and inhuman laws in J&K gives forces a license to kill, rape and implicate innocent people in false and fabricated cases,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) chairman expressed grief over the demise of Lassa Khan of Kokernag who passed away on Saturday.
“Lassa Khan was a symbol of tragedies and repression which is being inflicted over Kashmiris. He suffered a sea of tragedies throughout his life and today his death has shocked us,” he said.
Geelani appealed to the Imams of mosques to organise special prayers for the deceased.
As per statement, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leaders, Bashir Ahmad Qureshi and Sheikh Mohammad Ramzan participated in funeral prayers of Lassa Khan and extended condolence message to the bereaved family.
