Srinagar: National Conference has strongly condemned use of excessive force by government forces in many parts of old city.
General secretary of National Conference and MLA Khanyar, Ali Mohammad Sagar said in a statement that action against scores of youth and residents of Gojwara, Islamia School, Jamia Masjid, Rajouri Kadal, Nowhatta and Saraf Kadal by security forces and police was condemnable. Sagar said that law enforcement agencies should ensure that the common man was not harassed or intimidated.
“Such actions create hostility and restlessness among the people and the nature of repression and assault is highly condemnable and unacceptable. An innocent shopkeeper too has been brutally assaulted and scores of youth have been rounded up, beaten up and intimidated. This will lead to an adverse situation where the youth would feel cornered and targeted”, Sagar warned.
Sagar demanded that the Governor should probe this matter and issue instructions to relevant quarters to rein in elements responsible for ruthlessly persecuting the common man.
“Rather than bridging the gap with the youth, such actions will further push them and send out a message of confrontation. Any repression of civilians is highly condemnable and unacceptable”, he added.
Meanwhile Sagar and National Conference Provincial President, Nasir Aslam Wani have expressed concern for the fire victims of Goni Khan and demanded adequate compensation for them. They also demanded immediate rehabilitation of the victims.
