Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) has condemned the harassment of devotees, shopkeepers and residents of the adjoining areas of Jamia Masjid Srinagar by government forces and termed their massive presence in the area as unjustified and undesirable.
In a statement issued here, Hurriyat said that it will come up with a viable solution to the continuous harassment and reign of terror unleashed by government forces in areas around Jamia Masjid.
Shahid-ul-Islam, spokesman of the conglomerate said that the massive presence of government forces around Jamia Masjid on Fridays has become a matter of serious concern as both people and traders of the adjoining areas are feeling intimidated by them and are losing patience now.
“We had time and again asked authorities not to deploy forces here but no heed was paid to it. So we will now deliberate on taking steps to put end to such provocative practice by government,” he said.
The traders of old city on Saturday observed a shutdown against highhandedness of the paramilitary CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police. One shopkeeper was injured in Gojwara area on Friday when he was hit by pellets fired by the government forces.
