SRINAGAR: Thirteen shops were gutted in a devastating fire at a busy Goni Khan market in Srinagar.
Fire broke out in two commercial buildings, housing nearly two dozen shops, at congested Goni Khan Market in the vicinity of Lal Chowk late last night and was put off within half an hour, a spokesperson of the Fire and Emergency Services said.
Following the fire breakdown, several fire engines were pressed into service and it was brought under control after more than two hours.
All shops were shuttered down while the area was cordoned off by shopkeepers who were clearing the debris and rubble of the gutted structures.
However, the cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. “Investigation is going on in this regard,” a top police official said, adding that no injury or loss of life was reported.
Goni Khan is one of the busy markets in the city thronged mostly by women customers.
