SRINAGAR: KCCI opposes handing over of The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry has reiterated that it will oppose any move by the government to hand over the J&K Handicraft (S&E) Corporation owned Kashmir Government Arts Emporium to some private players.
In a stemsnt issued here by the President Mushtaq Ahamd Wani, the Chamber said Emporium can be revived with it already suggesting the government to place a revolving fund of Rs. 5 to 10 crores at the disposal of the Corporation so that it could buy goods directly from the manufacturers, artisans later to sell them through already established network of showrooms across India so as to keep running on sustained basis and generate work for the local artisans.
The Chamber has also sought the consent and cooperation of the manufacturers/ artisans bodies to supply goods to the Arts Emporium on credit basis through the purchase committee to be appointed by the government for the purpose to provide space for improvement of the liquidity position of Corporation and be in a position to run smoothly providing a dependable outlet for our handicraft products for which the Emporium has essentially been established decades back.
The Chamber has resolved to stand against such move which is detrimental to the heritage handicraft sector as well as artisans.
