Pampore: The district administration Shopian suspended 21 doctors who were absent from the hospital on Saturday, when Kashmir observed shutdown against the government of India’s action against pro-Kashmir protesters in New Delhi.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian, G M Dar, ordered the suspension during his surprise visit to the health centres and hospitals in the south Kashmir district.
“We found the doctors absent from duty, and order their suspension,” Dar told Kashmir Reader. “I have also ordered an enquiry into the matter.”
He has also ordered deduction of their day’s salaries.
“Besides suspension, their one day salaries were also deducted,” the DC said. “I only issued suspension orders for medicos today; a separate order will be issued against the absent paramedics tomorrow.”
The action has come on a day when Kashmir observed a shutdown on the call of pro-freedom leadership. Routine business in the Valley was suspended, while the transport was completely off the roads, making it difficult for employees to reach offices.
In the summer capital also, the government offices wore a deserted look, with most of the employees visibly unable to reach their offices.
