SUMBAL: Patwar Association Sumbal on Wednesday held a protest against the allegations leveled against its employees by some locals in front of tehsil office here.
The patwaris and girdawars assembled at main road and were raising slogans against the allegations.
The residents of Arampora and Inderkoot areas of Sonawari on Tuesday staged a protest outside tehsil office against what they termed as “swindling of public money by the corrupt officials”.
The protesters had alleged that a girdawar, Abdul Majeed had taken hefty amount from some farmers “just to persuade a few landlords to stop the construction of a link road in the area”.
However, on Wednesday same residents make their presence in front of tehsildar and raised slogans in favour of patwaris and tehsildar.
One of the residents, Shabir Ahmad said the allegations were baseless. “There were some miscreants in yesterday’s protest who took advantage of the event,” he said.
The locals said a link road from Arampora to Rakhi Asham should be constructed for better transport facility.
“Many people have given their land for road which is in everyone’s interest but the work has been halted due to objection by a few people. The allegations leveled against the employee are baseless and we condemn such allegations, the locals said.
They have appealed the tehsildar Sumbal that the road should be constructed at the earliest.
President, Patwar Association, Sumbal, Fayaz Mohiuddin said a report of the said project has already been sent to the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora.
Asked about the allegations leveled by people against a girdawar, Mohiuddin termed them baseless.
“Some elements are trying to malign our image but we will continue to work for the betterment of the people,” he said.
He said they have lodged FIR against the miscreants who hurled abuses and attacked an employee.
Tehsildar Sumbal, Nazir Ahmad said the persons who attacked and abused the girdawar Abdul Majeed will be seriously dealt with.
After the assurance of tehsildar, patwar association called off their protest and started their work in respective offices.
