SRINAGAR: The High Court has granted the government a week to comply with its directions regarding the appointment of principal Government Medical College (GMC) here.
As the hearing of a petition filed by Dr Javed Chowdhary started before a single bench of Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar, deputy advocate general Mir Sajad submitted that the compliance report will be filed and prayed for listing the matter next week.
“Prayer granted,” the court said, and directed its registry to list the case next week.
Dr Javed Chowdhary has laid claim to the post of GMC, saying that he is the senior most professor in the faculty and by asking his junior, Dr Kaiser Ahmad, to look after the post infringes his rights.
On December 31 last year, the court directed the government to fill up the post on regular basis within a period of four weeks by “having regard to the rule position.”
In case that it was not done for any reason, the single bench of Justice Janak Raj Kotwal had directed that the government that the order regarding Dr Kaiser shall stay and that the government shall make fresh temporary arrangement in which “seniority shall prevail.”
