SRINAGAR: A complete was observed in Nishat area of Srinagar on Friday against Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) for not allowing the residents to raise the height of their houses.
Shops and business establishments in Nishat area were closed while public transport was off the roads.
A local resident said they were protesting against the “deplorable behaviour” of the LAWDA officials who were not allowing them to raise the height of their buildings.
“Despite several pleas, the authority’s reluctance forced us to observe shutdown. We will take to streets if our demands are not met,” they said.
Vice-Chairman (VC), LAWDA, Sarmad Hafeez told a local news agency KNS that they won’t allow anyone to raise their buildings in the non-permissible zone. “The High Court has ordered us to demolish the buildings constructed within the prohibited areas but some miscreants resist the officials for conducting the process, which is the only cause behind the protests,” Hafeez said.
