Ganderbal: The residents of Kangan and its adjoining areas in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Friday staged a protest against National Food Security Act (NFSA) implementation and demanded its rollback.
After congregation prayers, the angry residents assembled outside Central Jamia Masjid in Kangan and took out a protest march and staged a sit-in at main chowk.“We will not allow NFSA implementation in Valley as the previous system of public distribution was better than this Act,” said a local headman, who was among the protesters.
He said their demand was reasonable and government should distribute ration per sole rather than per head.
The protesters after massive sloganeering against the Act dispersed peacefully.
The protests have been going in across the Valley since Feb 15, when the act was implemented in the state.
Despite appeals from the administration that enough ration would be provided to every household, people have been protesting to demand the rollback of the Act.
