Families of alleged Hizb workers plead innocence

Bandipora: The families of two of four arrested alleged upper ground workers of Hizbul Mujahideen have pleaded innocence on Thursday, saying, a ‘ conspiracy has been hatched by some other person’ against them.

The families of two accused-Firdous and Muzamil, who police claims were desperate to join the militant ranks from past six months, said that “they are being falsely implicated by police’.

The families held a protest demanding release of their sons outside the District Court of Bandipora when the accused were brought in for the remand.

Firdous, who according to her sister is a lone bread earner of family, said “He (Firdous) is innocent and was busy in carrying the family responsibilities as their father had passed away”, adding, “Firdous has never involved himself in such activities”

However, the police claimed that the duo after receiving weapons from Bilal Rather who himself had received it from Khan, were set to kill some influential personalities linked with army and police. Khan was a surrendered militant who arranged weapons (pistol and a grenade).
